John McDonald Racing is a new horse racing tipster service operated by Classic Racing Group with the selections coming from the eponymous John McDonald.
What does the product offer?
John McDonald Racing is a horse racing tipster service that provides its subscribers with selections on a near daily basis, generally with a rather high volume (some days there can be as many as 5 bets). I say near daily basis as there are the occasional days when no bets are available however JOHN MCDONALD does notify you when it is one of these days.
All selections for John McDonald Racing are issued vie email on the day of races, always before the first meeting and typically around 1pm. John McDonald Racing advises a combination of win and each way bet types which allows for a clear focus on a straight forward betting approach.
The staking that John McDonald Racing advises is anywhere from 1 point to 4 points although the latter has only cropped up once on a 6/4 bet.
This brings me neatly on to the average odds which are generally longer shots with a clear attempt from John McDonald Racing to find value bets. This has led to a strike rate that whilst not published, would probably work out around the 20-25% mark.
How does the product work?
Classic Racing Group say that John McDonald Racing is powered by a unique set of ratings that have been developed by JOHN MCDONALD. Unfortunately, this isn’t something that is ever really expanded on.
They also say that the man behind John McDonald Racing is “one of the very best in the game” and also a “specialist in UK racing”.
What is the initial investment?
At the time of writing there are two different subscription packages available for John McDonald Racing. Classic Racing Group offer a monthly option at a cost of £50 per month or alternatively you can sign up for a quarterly subscription at a cost of £125.
There is no mention of any money back guarantee which is rather typical for a tipster service and so I wouldn’t expect anything like this to be in place.
What is the rate of return?
Since apparently going live at the start of March, John McDonald Racing has made an overall points profit of 40.79 points. This amounts to an ROI 30% which is a decent enough figure.
Conclusion
John McDonald Racing is a brand new service from a firm that I’m not overly familiar with (Classic Racing Group).
The website is registered to a company however their offices are one of those examples that rent out single rooms, a tactic often used to make questionable services seem legitimate.
These concerns aside, my biggest problem with John McDonald Racing is the pricing. £50 per month to make a profit isn’t bad and I can see how over time, if it is consistent, there is some money to be made but there are a few too many “ifs” surrounding John McDonald Racing for my liking.
