JPG Racing (Jonny P. Goode Racing) is a new to market horse racing tipster service which is being offered through Premium Sports Tipsters. Selections come courtesy of the (somewhat) eponymous “Jonny”.
Introduction to JPG Racing
I always find it interesting when I’m looking at a tipster service to see how exactly they go about marketing their abilities. I mean, I’ll be honest with you, as somebody who has been doing this for a long time, ability and success are massively nuanced things. I’ve seen far too many tipster services come to market making bold claims that they have simply not been able to maintain. This inevitably leads to a point where, as a consumer, you have to question the long term abilities of a service.

Now, all of that is a little bit left of field, I’ll admit. But I want to look at how it all ties in. You see, Premium Sports Tipsters ask the question “Does An AVERAGE Monthly Profit of £1,290 Appeal To YOU?”. Well, I think that for almost anybody would find this appealing. Which brings me to the subject of today’s review, JPG Racing. You see, what happens here is there is now a clear measure that you can hold Jonny to. And whilst I think that there is an awful lot of flexibility in how you measure the success of a service, the standards are set pretty high.
So, what you have here is a tipster service that is seemingly performing well, month in and month out. And in many respects, JPG Racing more than has the chops to back this up. Jonny clearly has an approach with at least some merit, and the proofing that Premium Sports Tipsters provide shows a tipster service that doesn’t necessarily seem to really falter. So, a sure fire recommendation, right? Not necessarily, and I want to talk a bit about why.
What Does JPG Racing Offer?
From the get go, I want to be clear that under the right set of circumstances, JPG Racing has performed admirably. There are clearly some solid underpinnings to this. And this is something that is definitely important to mention because I am going to be quite hard on Jonny. Now, this isn’t just because Premium Sports Tipsters set that standard with their headline. But I definitely have some questions about the sustainability of the approach.
You see, in order to understand what you’re getting into with JPG Racing, there are two main things that you need to really take on board. Firstly, I want to talk about the type of bet. Now, with most horse racing tipster services you’re looking at either backing a horse to win, or backing it on an each way basis. Whilst you might see some win bets, Jonny is mostly concerned with those each way bets.
So far, so good. However, where JPG Racing definitely does differ from most each way tipster services is in the odds that you will be betting at. Because Jonny tends to typically favour horses with shorter odds. How short are we talking here? Well, the average odds to BOG come in at just 4.54. To Industry start price, this falls to just 4.15 (although there is a drastic difference in the performance, but I’ll come to this).
Now, before I press on, I do want to talk about managing those odds. The fact of the matter is that low odds drastically impact your ability to profit. And in my experience, using an odds comparison site can see you improve the odds that you are betting at by as much as 20%. Which with small numbers can be very important. Especially when you have “winning” bets that lose money. Which does happen with JPG Racing.
Fortunately, Jonny and Premium Sports Tipsters issue selections directly via email at 7pm on the evening before racing. This means that there is still actually a decent amount of time to work out where the most value for your money is. Which I cannot stress enough is a good idea if you are looking at this.
As well as selections being sent out via email, Premium Sports Tipsters also take advantage of Telegram. For those of you who may not be familiar with this, it is a relatively straightforward messaging app. In my mind, this is the best option for JPG Racing. The fact is that it can be very easy to miss an email with selections on there. A notification on your phone is harder to ignore.
Before I get back to some of the betting information and numbers sides of JPG Racing, I do want to just bring up a few final details in terms of the logistics. Firstly, whilst this has historically been at least somewhat low volume, the recent proofing from Premium Sports Tipsters suggests a different picture. The last 7 days of June saw 25 selections advised. This includes five tips advised in one day.
Now, whilst this does of course inevitably take some work, especially if you are seeking out decent odds, it isn’t an unmanageable number. Fortunately, something of note is that the stakes that Premium Sports Tipsters’s proofing for JPG Racing demonstrates that you aren’t really putting too much down on your bets.
A lot of the bets that are advised are simply to stakes of up to 3 points. But the reality is that most of what you are dealing with will be much lower than this with the most common bets being just half a point per bet or even a point per bet. All of which means that there isn’t necessarily too much strain put on your betting bank.
And backing this up is the average strike rate for JPG Racing of 51.21%. A seemingly incredible number given that you’re backing horses here. However, I do believe that this should be kept in some context. At the end of the day, a big part of this impressive number is the fact that it also counts when a horse places. Which at relatively low odds, is something that is quite likely really.
How Does JPG Racing Work?
There are two ways of looking at how JPG Racing works. The first element is something that Jonny talks about somewhat extensively. He says that he uses a “unique system” which identifies where bookies have priced the horse up incorrectly the night before racing. Effectively, you’re looking at a value based approach to betting.
On top of this, I can see how combining lower odds betting, each way bets, and a high strike rate, theoretically creates a very low risk tipster service. It’s a good thing for Premium Sports Tipsters to have on their hands, and the results more than demonstrate what this can do. Not just in that strike rate that sits at more than 50%, but the fact that Jonny hasn’t had a losing month to date based on the proofing.
Now, I’ll concede that simply in talking about his wider approach and viewing the wider philosophy of JPG Racing definitely gives us more insight than some tipsters, but it is still a pretty long way from being something that I would consider to be comprehensive. I’d have certainly liked to have understood a bit more about what criteria Jonny applies to identify which horses have been undervalued.
But the fact of the matter is that between all of that, and the proofing Premium Sports Tipsters provide, it is hard to say that you come into JPG Racing blind. At the very least, you can have a good idea of what to expect from the results, and the potential extent of drawdown your betting bank might face.
What is the Initial Investment?
One of the big considerations with JPG Racing in my opinion is the costs. I’ll be frank and say that it isn’t exactly cheap. Premium Sports Tipsters are asking £45 per month in order to receive Jonny’s selections (although this does seem to be inclusive of VAT, which is something). As is typical for most tipster services, there is greater value to be had if you sign up for longer.
This includes a quarterly option for which Premium Sports Tipsters are asking £46 for the first month, after which the cost rises to £90. The best value comes from a 6 month subscription which is £93 for your first 6 months of JPG Racing with the cost increasing to £150 for subsequent periods.
It is worth keeping in mind that none of these options come with any sort of money back guarantee or refund policy. As such, you really do want to make sure that you’re committed to JPG Racing if you want to get the most value out of those longer subscriptions.
What is the Rate of Return?
I’ve already touched upon the main selling point for JPG Racing in terms of the return. This is the claim that Jonny and Premium Sports Tipsters make in their headline that says there is an average monthly profit of £1,290. Now, the first thing to note is that this is technically correct. The average monthly profits can in fact come out at this.
What is rather skipped over however is that this number is based off £50 per point staking. An amount that I don’t really believe most people will be looking to stake. If you scale the numbers back to £10 per point, you see that you’re actually looking at a shade over £250 per month (25.8 points). This is still a decent result, as is the ROI of 25.41%. However, I do want to address that all of these numbers are to BOG.
You see, at the end of June, JPG Racing had a profit of 128.35 points to BOG. To BSP, this figure dropped drastically to just 53.18 points. To Industry start price, the number is even lower with just 12.73 points of profit. Now, this is clear proof that Jonny’s approach works. His whole approach is based around exploiting those early odds, however, it does highlight that there may be some restrictions for people here off the back of this.
Conclusion for JPG Racing
I have a lot of respect for what Jonny is doing here. It has been a while since I’ve looked at a tipster service that so demonstrably works. However, it is also a service that by the nature of that success, demonstrates that there are clear restrictions. Because I want to be very straight. If you have any sort of restrictions or can’t bet to BOG, JPG Racing isn’t something I would recommend.
It is very clear that this is something that so long as you can meet certain criteria, will be profitable. But if you can’t, you’re a bit knackered really. I also think that whilst I’m being up front about JPG Racing, it is worth talking about the betting approach. I can see why Jonny does what he does. Lots of winning bets isn’t a bad thing, and I think the longest losing streak here is just 7 losing bets.
But here’s the thing, this is also the kind of service where a “winning bet” doesn’t necessarily translate immediately to profit. In fact, there are a good few bets that are advised as each way that have lost money, even though a horse has placed. Now, that’s a part and parcel of the service and something that you really have to keep in mind when weighing up how this will fit for you. And that isn’t necessarily easy to do.
You see, everything that Premium Sports Tipsters say about Jonny and his abilities are correct. JPG Racing does indeed have that high strike rate, it is low risk as a result. Especially with the smaller stakes (all proofing started out as 2 point stakes on all bets). But I don’t believe that they necessarily paint a full picture.
Let’s just circle back to that 7 bet losing streak. The “winning” bet before that was actually a loss of 0.4 points. Which, if you factor in the losing bet before that, means that you’ve had 9 losing bets in a row, even though one of them won. And over the 5 bets before that losing streak there are two wins. But at just 0.05 points and 0.1 points, how much should you really be celebrating them?
And these kinds of low return winning bets aren’t uncommon. In June, there were eight different bets that won, and produced a profit. But that profit was less than half a point. A full 45 bets have placed, but lost money. And as such, whilst it is easy to get carried away with those broader numbers, JPG Racing isn’t quite as good looking as it first seems to be.
Now, I don’t think that this is a bad service. And I am quite sure that in the long term, you will make money off of this. But all of that is dependent on you being able to act quickly, and ensure that you have no restrictions. If you can maintain that, and don’t mind losing a bit here and there, and you can hold out on income disparity month to month, JPG Racing isn’t a bad looking option (albeit an expensive one).
But I do think that Premium Sports Tipsters have… Shifted the goal posts a bit, in how they market this. What I find frustrating about JPG Racing is that it is portrayed in a very certain light, and I don’t think it quite fits the bill. Which is a shame, because just being open and honest about what you were getting into would make for a much better overall consumer experience. I also think for it to really be competitive, it could possibly be a bit cheaper.
