Many Moons is a horse racing tipster service which is being offered by the eponymous Jon of Honest Jon. The service aims to provide long term profit and consistent results.
Introduction to Many Moons Tipster Service
It has been some time since I have seen anything from Honest Jon doing the rounds and I am genuinely rather pleased to see that he is back. I feel like it is fair to say that one upon a time he was genuinely one of the hardest working people in the betting industry with a huge number of different betting systems, all for hugely different types of betting.
From horse racing to the Lottery, Honest Jon covered it all. They were all priced at differing amounts too. All of this whilst fiercely defending his products with a tenacity that I can’t help but feel some admiration for. Anyway, this brings me onto Many Moons. This is arguably the flagship product in the Honest Jon range (it is at least the most expensive) and is seemingly the culmination of a life’s work. Does this make it any good though? Let’s have a look at what is on offer.
What Does Many Moons Offer?
As far as tipster services go, Many Moons is a pretty straight forward example in some respects. Selections are issued on a daily basis and are sent directly out to subscribers via email. These are typically issued between 9am and 11am. All that you have to do is place the relevant bets. One of the things that first stands out about Honest Jon’s service however is how you place the bets. Honest Jon has a long history of Betfair trading and has developed a number of systems based around this, so I am not surprised that it is recommended you bet through an exchange.
What is interesting however is that I believe that there is possibly potential to increase the profitability of Many Moons using a bookmaker as well.
So each day you will receive between no selections and 5 selections from Many Moons although typically, there are between 1 and 3. Honest Jon says that these should then be backed to win and also backed to place. Now this is categorically not each way betting. In fact, Honest Jon says “do not use the e/w market on betfair or elsewhere”. There is a rigorous staking plan in place (which I will get to) that must be preserved in order for Many Moons to be profitable.
I have mentioned that there is a staking plan in place for Many Moons and honestly, it is very important in making the service profitable. As stated, each selection is advised to be backed on a win and a place basis. Honest Jon advises that you are supposed to back the horse to win to 1 point and to place to 3 point stakes. This is also combined with a progressive staking plan in place for Many Moons which means 1 point being a percentage of a 200 point betting bank.
There is rather unfortunately no strike rate published however I have carried out some rough calculations for Many Moons. The rough strike rate for the place bets is very impressive coming in at around 75%. Obviously Honest Jon’s win bets win less often however with a strike rate of about 30%, this remains a respectable enough result.
How Does Many Moons Work?
Honest Jon doesn’t really go into too much in the way of detail about how Many Moons works, but there is enough for us to make an informed decision. Essentially, the whole thing is based around his own personal ratings system. Now Honest Jon doesn’t go into detail of criteria etc. (saying that you would be yawning and reaching for the whisky long before you finished going through them), but this somewhat misses the point.
It is claimed that the ratings system behind Many Moons has been over 2 years in the making which is one hell of an undertaking. Had I seen this claim coming from a stranger, I would probably be a little bit doubtful.
As it happens, I can entirely believe that Honest Jon has been doing this. In terms of the lack of criteria and detail, I also know from experience that Honest Jon spends a hell of a lot of time on betting. With this in mind, I have no reason to doubt that the ratings behind Many Moons will be genuine and not mere guesswork.
What is the Initial Investment?
If there is one thing that I can quite happily say about Honest Jon, it is that his products and services are generally very well priced and Many Moons is no different. There is only one option available which is a monthly subscription, however this is priced at just £19.99 per month. This makes it one of the more affordable options on the market. Unfortunately, there is no money back guarantee offered for any of Honest Jon’s products and Many Moons is no different.
What is the Rate of Return?
Honest Jon says that Many Moons is proofed to Racing Index however this does not do the service justice. In fact, it erroneously reports a quite substantial loss which is ultimately down to the fact that the staking plan is not accounted for. In actual fact, Many Moons has seen returns of 13.89 points since May. Whilst this doesn’t sound like a huge amount, I believe that it somewhat overlooks the bigger picture with Many Moons.
Conclusion to Many Moons Tipster Service
It is fair to say that if you came to me and asked if I thought that 7 points of profit per month was good, I would be very much inclined to direct you elsewhere. The fact of the matter is that a service needs to be making not just a profit, but enough of a profit to make it worthwhile. £25 stakes would mean that you had made just £325 in 3 months. Factor in subs and this number drops to £265.
Not a massive amount of money at all and arguably, not worth the effort. Factor in that Many Moons peaked at 126 points and hypothetically, you could actually be 13 points in the hole.
All of this overlooks what Many Moons is about though.
Honest Jon has a very clear plan for the service and whilst it may not be the most profitable, I can see how it will work. The staking plan is subtle in so much as you should generally build your bank slowly and without too much risk. By the end of the year, I can see the compounding working in your favour to the point where even small wins produce a decent profit.
For my money, Many Moons is different to a lot of tipster service so the market because it is all about profit, not just this month, but in 12 months. 18 months. Quite possibly even longer than this if Honest Jon carries on as he has. The key to success with products of this nature is to get on board with them early and follow through with discipline.
One these grounds alone, I am quite comfortable accepting that Many Moons isn’t going to be for everybody. I can certainly think of plenty of services which will make more money over the next 3 months.
There is also however more chance that those services will be gone in 12 months. Many Moons is definitely a slow burner and if you are willing to think as long term as Honest Jon, then it is really worth a look.
I do however eel that most punters are looking for something much more immediate and for the majority of people, this may not be a good fit, but then again, if you are serious about your betting, then you know that no profits are made quickly, not sustaainable profits anyway.
