Place Profit Masters is a horse racing tipster service that is operated by one Carl Murray and marketed by Best System Bets. The claimed results are quite substantial.
Introduction to Place Profit Masters
I often say that the only way to really beat the bookies in the long term is to simply know more than them. I will stand by that fact until the day I die. But there are other ways that you can get an edge too. You see, one of the other key elements in long term profit is understanding risk vs reward. It’s all well and good scoring massive wins, but if you aren’t doing it consistently you can still lose a lot of money. And one such way of drastically minimising risk is using certain betting markets.
This is the concept that Place Profit Masters is built around. Carl Murray’s focus is on winning small and often, and if you believe the sales material then he is winning a hell of a lot. In fact, he and Best System Bets boast some truly impressive results that, if actually delivered on, would make for one hell of a service. We’re talking high strike rate, high ROI, easy betting… what isn’t to like about all of that?! In fact, you might even be thinking that this is a nailed on thing. Especially when you look at all of the apparent evidence backing everything up.
Here’s the thing though, there are a lot of questions that hang over this. Whilst there are undoubtedly some impressive claims made by Carl Murray, I have some doubts about his ability to deliver on them. Whilst Best System Bets seemingly show over and over that Place Profit Masters is smashing it out of the park, there is a lack of… substance to the evidence that is provide. Of course, it would be naïve of me to overlook this. Especially because, in theory, there may well be something ti all too. So, let’s get into it and see what is what.
What Does Place Profit Masters Offer?
As far as tipster services go, the fundamental offering of Place Profit Masters is a very straightforward one. Something that I by no means intend as any sort of criticism. In actual fact, given the nature of the service, I actually think that it is something commendable. Where plenty of other tipsters might start trying to tinker in order to improve their returns, Carl Murray doesn’t.
So, what exactly does this simplicity mean for you? Well, on paper, Place Profit Masters is a service that provides subscribers with selections Monday through Friday. As you might expect from pretty much any modern tipster service, these selections are issued directly via email and typically land with subscribers before 11am.
Of course, I say that Place Profit Masters is Monday through Friday, but Carl Murray and Best System Bets have put together a bit of a weird package here. You see, as well as the core product, there are also what are referred to as 2 “Bonus” products. These provide selections for Saturday racing, as well as covering festivals. Both things that I can’t help but feel should be included as a default.
Ultimately, the rules still apply one these “bonus days” too. Possibly the only exception that exists in terms of the volume of bets come festival season. Whilst there haven’t been any horse racing festivals recently that I could compare to, in my experience, a festival will potentially double the amount of bets that are advised. Something I do expect you will see from Carl Murray with Place Profit Masters (although this isn’t explicitly stated).
One of the things that I do think warrants some consideration is the fact that whilst Place Profit Masters is a fundamentally straight forward service involved, there is still a degree of work. Firstly, because of the bets that are advised, there are only a limited number of bookies to bet with. This can make seeking out the best odds quite difficult.
And that is something that I think is really quite important with Place Profit Masters. You see, the thing with backing a horse to place is that you very rarely see decent odds. Something that Carl Murray and Best System Bets actively demonstrate in the limited evidence they provide. Most bets don’t see odds of more than 2/1 and when that exceptional circumstance arrives, it is down to the betting structure.
You see, whilst Place Profit Masters is based around place betting, Carl Murray does have a very clearly defined plan. Each day you will receive 3 different bets. Two of them are straight place bets. The third bet is a place double.
Something that does count as a positive however is that theoretically, you could easily use Place Profit Masters through a betting exchange. The truth is that there just aren’t that many bookies that like to let punters place place bets, which of course makes a massive place betting market seem incredibly attractive. This is the kind of thing that should be heavily pushed by Carl Murray and Best System Bets and yet somehow, isn’t.
In terms of numbers, the first thing to talk about is the staking plan. The evidence that Best System Bets provide show that Carl Murray is staking £50 on each place bet and £25 on the doubles (a point I want to come back to later). Something that I (quite reasonably I think) translate to 2 point and 1 point bets. This would mean 5 points per day so it’s all very nicely rounded off.
What isn’t rounded off however is a betting bank. There isn’t really a whole lot of information provided in this regard, at least, from what I’ve seen. Realistically, I would probably want to have 100 points as a minimum. Discounting the Saturdays and Festivals (which aren’t technically a part of Place Profit Masters but probably should be), this would give you 4 weeks of betting.
One aspect of the numbers side of things that both Carl Murray and Best System Bets are very keen to push is the strike rate. Probably because this is claimed to be a whopping 73%. That is a massive number, even for a place betting service. It is also one element of Place Profit Masters that I am very sceptical of due to a lack of evidence. This is despite it being referred to as “proven”.
How Does Place Profit Masters Work?
If you want to talk about how Place Profit Masters works there are two different elements at play. First and foremost, there is simply the concept of using place bets as a bet type. Of course, whilst this does have some merit, everything that you do when you use a certain approach with betting will have pros and cons. In this case, Carl Murray should have a higher strike rate. Unfortunately, the wins just aren’t nearly as big.
The thing is, all of that can come together. It really isn’t a big deal because by and large, if you’re beating the bookies, you’re beating the bookies. In order to achieve this though, you do have to have some idea of what you are betting on. This of course involves a selection process, something that is quite notable in its absence with Place Profit Masters. We are however fed quite the narrative.
Best System Bets say that Carl Murray grew up around and riding horses. Not horse racing mind, but campdrafting. This experience, he says, has given him “a knack for being able to tell apart the lightning quick stallions from the broken down bisons”, as well as hinting at inside information and some kind of system. Not that this is really explored further. About the most interesting statement in all of this is that Place Profit Masters supposedly isn’t based on history repeating itself.
This is of course a very impressive sounding philosophy on paper. But once you start to scrutinise it, none of it really means much of anything. Combine that with a lack of proofing from Best System Bets (despite us being told that this is a “proven service”) and things don’t look great for Place Profit Masters.
What is the Initial Investment?
In terms of the pricing structure, there are a number of different options. Whilst none of these are necessarily expensive, they do all tie you down for a rather significant length of time. The first option that Best System Bets offer is a quarterly subscription that is priced at £29.95 plus VAT. (supposedly, this is a 50% discount, but I’m not sure on what as there is no full price available).
Representing even better value is an annual subscription. At just £59.95 plus VAT, this looks exceptionally cheap. Something that is seemingly reinforced by the (again rather vague) claim that this is a 75% discount. The final option for Place Profit Masters is a “lifetime license” which is priced at £99 plus VAT. This pretty much does what it says on the tin.
Something worth noting is that there is no money back guarantee in place for any of these options. This isn’t something that necessarily counts against Place Profit Masters as it is pretty much par for the course in the industry (and definitely standard with Best System Bets), but it is something worth keeping in mind.
What is the Rate of Return?
So, Carl Murray claims that specifically that he personally makes “a minimum of £1,436.37 a week”. This is one hell of a claim to make. Interestingly, in the one week that is proofed (of a sort, but I’ll come back to that), what we are actually shown is Place Profit Masters making a profit of £724.44. A far cry from the income claimed in the sales material.
But these aren’t actually the numbers that jumped out at me with Place Profit Masters. Instead, it is the claim of a monthly ROI of between 84% and 147%. This is a huge result. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come as any real surprise to learn that this is rather swiftly contradicted. Not by a huge amount mind, but the fact that it happens at all casts some doubts on Carl Murray’s abilities.
Of course, I have to come b ack to the fact that almost none of this is actually proofed either. About the closest that we come are a series of screenshots of Betfair betting slips for a single week. It is a long way from comprehensive and only adds to the problems surrounding Place Profit Masters.
Conclusion for Place Profit Masters
All of this leads to two main questions in my mind. And whilst the two are intrinsically linked and may sound the same, I can assure you that they are very different creatures. So, these two questions are: Do I believe that Place Profit Masters can work? In theory, absolutely. Yes. Place betting is a well known approach to betting, there is something to be said for doubling them up for a bigger winner too. On paper, Carl Murray has some solid ideas.
But then I have to ask whether or not I think that Place Profit Masters will work. The answer to that is much clearer in my mind. Because I’m not really certain that it will. There is little denying that between Carl Murray and Best System Bets they spin a good yarn. Honestly, there may even be some truth to it. But what there isn’t a lot of is concrete evidence.
Firstly, I am always sceptical when I see Betfair screenshots of betting slips. I have seen a massive number of questionable tipster services and they all use the same thing. Betfair betting slips. Does that immediately discount Place Profit Masters? Absolutely not. But it’s not necessarily the best starting point either.
But here’s the thing, even if Carl Murray were to somehow provide incontrovertible proof that the week in which he made £725 was genuine and above board… well that’s still only a week of betting. Even in the best case scenario, Place Profit Masters isn’t able to get near the income claimed in the sales video. Now, there is something to be said for different stakes etc. But it is a concerning point to me nonetheless.
Then there is actually talking about how bets are found. There is ultimately very little of substance said. And if I’m really honest, whenever somebody starts saying that they simply “have an eye” for horses, I immediately want to run away. It would take one hell of a proofing sheet for me to buy into that.
So, what are we really left with? Place Profit Masters is a service that could work. But we have no tangible evidence that it does work. That isn’t necessarily an ideal starting point with a service. Add to that the fact that there simply aren’t any shorter term less expensive subscription offers and you are quite tied down for your money.
With that in mind, I don’t really think that I would look to recommend Place Profit Masters. This certainly isn’t the worst service that I’ve ever seen. Not by a long shot. But it doesn’t necessarily do much emphatically right either. The thing is, with some more proofing and evidence from Best System Bets and Carl Murray this may get a better outcome. But as is, definitely not.
