Shrewd Tipster is a horse racing tipster service provided by Jimmy Welsh in conjunction with the Betfan group. Tips are fundamentally based on his allegedly considerable experience.
What does the product offer?
Shrewd Tipster is not actually a new service and has been operational with Betfan since 2010. Following a brief hiatus this long standing service has returned with some moderate success so far for 2014. The service is operated by Jimmy Welsh who, if you read through the material, really seems to know what to look at in terms of creating a successful betting system. In terms of Shrewd Tipster as a service, it is (as are most Betfan services) an email based tipster service offering daily selections. Jimmy Welsh uses a varied staking system which will see you placing bets ranging from one point to as high as eight points which may put some people off, especially since Shrewd Tipster has a distinctly average strike rate of 28% for 2014.
How does the product work?
Jimmy Welsh says that in order to really develop a strong system you have to look at very specific circumstances. In the case of Shrewd Tipster, this is “better class races for older horses, over 7 furlongs to a mile and a half”. He says that by looking specifically at these types of races you can better analyse how a horse will likely do in a race.
What is the initial investment?
There are three subscription packages available which are Silver, Gold and Platinum. These correlate to a monthly, quarterly and bi-annual subscription with costs coming in at £69, £149 and £249 respectively. There is no money back guarantee in place however Betfan always review refund requests.
What is the rate of return?
Since its inception in March of 2010, Shrewd Tipster has achieved an overall profit of 1488.71 points. For 2014 the service has made 134.4 points of profit.
Conclusion
As is an increasing trend with Betfan’s services, Shrewd Tipster is a rather risky option in my book, arguably more so than most of the examples I have looked at. For example a single week in October had 55 points staked. When compared to an overall profit for the year of 134.4 points, it doesn’t look like a particularly great investment in my book. Ultimately, Shrewd Tipster has shown a profit and that is the most important thing but as a rate of return I don’t see it being high enough for my liking.
