South Downs Racing Review Luke Cooper

South Downs Racing is a (number of) horse racing tipster service which is operated by Luke Cooper. It provides a number of different betting options all whilst claiming a strong result.

Introduction to South Downs Racing

I have seen a lot of different claims made by a lot of different tipsters, some of which carry more weight than others. South Downs Racing says that it has been voted the UK’s number one tipster. This is a very impressive claim.

However, it should be noted that this is based off a survey carried out on 140 members and free trialists so I am inclined to treat this with a pinch of salt. What is significantly more interesting to me is Luke Cooper’s claim that South Downs Racing is “one of the most informed and knowledgeable racing services around”.

south-downs-racing-reviewWhether this is true is something that I want to get to the bottom of, but it is very clear to me that South Downs Racing is not your typical tipster service. There is a lot to cover if I am honest, so let’s dive straight in and see whether Luke Cooper’s claims can be substantiated.

What Does South Downs Racing Offer?

Put very crudely, South Downs Racing offers 4 different services to potential bettors. Each of these is quite different despite all being seemingly offered by the same team, under the same banner. The first service that I want to look at is the Hotline Service.

This is the daily side of South Downs Racing and operates in the rather old school fashion of calling a telephone number. Luke Cooper says that this will allow you to “get the edge”.

When you call the number you are given details on the horse, track, time, and which bookies offer the best odds. Those on the mailing list for South Downs Racing will receive an email each morning when the hotline is updated.

The next aspect of South Downs Racing is called Main Meetings, and not surprisingly, it covers… Well, main meetings. With this, you receive tips and analysis for an entire card from Luke Cooper and the team.

This is usually for the weeks biggest meeting (the South Downs Racing website helpfully notifies us that this is usually a Saturday) as well as major meetings and festival throughout the year. Main Meetings subscribers receive their tips directly via email.

Elite Bets is a very different beast and is based on information that Luke Cooper and the South Downs Racing team get from their industry contacts. Combined with analysis, they say that they will be able to provide you with 8-12 “very strong insider tips”.

Due to the nature of this aspect of South Downs Racing, they can arrive any time and as such, there is not a lot of traditional structure to the service. To ensure that you don’t miss bets however, Luke Cooper offers emails as well as SMS messages when there are bets available.

Platinum Bets is the crème de la crème of South Downs Racing and provides you with the ultimate in bespoke betting advice. The website says that Luke Cooper members receive betting advice personally over the phone with Luke Cooper, and that you will be advised when they are “as confident as [they] can be that a horse is nailed on to win”.

It is worth noting that this is an invitation only service and also requires an interview with Luke Cooper.

How Does South Downs Racing Work?

It should be pretty clear from what I have said so far that the inner workings of South Downs Racing are a combination of different things. There is plenty of talk about analysis and the like and I can see no reason not to believe this.

After all, Luke Cooper says that he has studied law and maths, as well as getting a job in The City. This suggests to me that the mind behind South Downs Racing has a firm stance in analytical approach.

As well as this there are numerous allusions to having a large network of insider contacts. In fact, if I may quote quite extensively from the South Downs Racing website “We have people up and down the country watching horses both in training and in action.

I’m constantly going back and forth on the phone with out network of contacts”. It is quite clear to me that presuming Luke Cooper isn’t simply trying to push out some marketing BS (which I don’t believe to be the case), then South Downs Racing being built on a balance of the two aspects is definitely something that could work.

What is the Initial Investment?

There are a large number of different ways of using South Downs Racing. The first of these is a hotline which you can call as and when you wish to receive tips. This is priced at £1.50 per call and is available from 11.30am each day.

The next option is to sign up for the Main Meetings service. This is rather pricey at £60 per month. Alternatively, you can sign up for the Elite Bets package of South Downs Racing which is priced at £120 per month.

Finally, there is Platinum Bets which is priced based off a discussion with Luke Cooper about what you are looking for.

What is the Rate of Return?

One of the things which isn’t really discussed in terms of South Downs Racing is the income potential. It is quite clear looking through the results that there is a lot of potential for profit, however I do feel that there are a few things that need to be discussed.

First of all, Luke Cooper doesn’t ever provide an actual figure in terms of the income of South Downs Racing. Secondly, whilst we are shown a stream of high value winners in the results, there are no details of losers either.

Here is the results claimed:

south-downs-racing-results-sampleConclusion on South Downs Racing

Looking into South Downs Racing there is a lot that has to be considered. First things first, as I have said before now I don’t doubt that Luke Cooper is genuine and by extension, the wider service.

This may seem like a relatively simple start, but in this line of work, you see a lot of questionable or disingenuous  services that simply seem to exist to line the creators pocket.

Whilst I can appreciate that this is the ultimate goal of any product or service, if you are getting what you are paying for then it is fair for everybody involved.

Now, with that out of the way, I want to address the second thing that jumps out at me, namely the price. If you were to call the South Downs Racing Hotline every day, you would end up spending £46.50.

This is a lot of money, however it doesn’t make it that far removed from a slightly expensive tipster service. £60 per month takes you well into that expensive price range and I think that it probably goes without saying that Elite and Platinum bets go well into a super premium price range.

This pricing leads me into the concept of value for money, something that becomes difficult to gauge with products like South Downs Racing. They demand a high price because they are not typically aimed at the market for your average punter.

It probably goes without saying, but if you can afford to consider spending £120 on a single tipster service, then you can invest enough that you don’t necessarily need to have significant points profits to do well.

The truth of the matter however is that I don’t see how I can realistically sit here and say that South Downs Racing represents significant value for money without information on the income.

With all of this in mind, I can only surmise that South Downs Racing isn’t really something that would work for me.

Some people might want to pay £120 per month for 12 top quality tips, but I know for a fact that you could put together a very decent little betting portfolio for that kind of money. What is clear to me however is that Luke Cooper knows what his target audience is and I don’t think that by and large it is 99% of bettors out there.

I think it is fair to say that this is backed up by the fact that the top tier comes with an interview. The fact of the matter however is that none of this makes South Downs Racing a bad product.

It just isn’t something that would ever realistically work for me.

Thanks for the revue. I’ve had several calls from him, but I agree with you-it looks a bit rummy that loser stats aren’t on offer. You’re also correct in pointing out that it’s an expensive service.

He rung me and I was in a meeting. When he could show me a couple, both won. 12/1each-way and 5/2 (very short!) I would have used him but I have been a bit unwell and had hospital appointments. Will use them potentially down the line. Cant moan to much on what I saw.

Anyone considering using Southdowns racing needs to read this. Like the two comments above I was called at work and given the usual patter – “you’ve been promised so much in the past, we are different, the profits you will make will be etc, etc”. I set up the £120 direct debit and couldn’t wait to get started. The first month was bad and I telephoned Luke or Scott and asked to cancel my direct debit but unfortunately I’d left it to late and it had already been processed. I was promised the next month free due to the bad results and was also told I would need to judge them over 3 months. Had to phone again after two months to make sure I got my next month free and then again after the third month to cancel (I was offered a fourth month free). I kept results from 24/11/20 up until I cancelled in January 2021.

Had the initial call like we all get, Was a bit dubious at first but was show a nice 8-1 Winner Big Time Maybe over at Brighton.

Went on board and used the Elite Bets Free Trial.

It was a average week but still profitable, However with my £5-£10 stakes i couldn’t see myself doing very well.

What i will say is the guys seem very genuine, and what i like is the option to leave at anytime.

So i am happy to continue using them until i do not make a profit.

I used the 7 day free trial which didn’t set me alight with hope so I thought I would have one month and see how that went, a month later I was £320 down despite assurances that it was a long term game and that I just needed to keep making the same stake over and again until it was boring to see the results and start playing with the bookies money. What was boring was keep topping up my account, watching greyhound after greyhound run to the back of the pack and then slow down and with the thought in the back of my mind that they want another £120 next month for the privilege.

I also used free 7 day service , I was liven a 7:1 winner thought this chap seems different to all the others , Iafter the first 7 days 1 of six greyhounds actually won , all the horses were all favourites only one won , then was given a favourite at 2/1. It came 7th out of 8 , I decided it wasn’t for me cancelled they still took £120 after asked them not to , It seems strange every one gets a 7/1 winner then they join , I wouldent advise any one to join I thought I would get the horses with decent odds like first , they only gave me favourites that lost , I can do that myself

Like most folks, I got was contacted with a tip – this was a greyhound (Le Homme Fusee) that won at 3/1. I responded out of curiosity to the message and had a nice chat with ‘Scott’ who said that he would get Luke to call me after I explained that I am a retired ex-pro tipster who runs a small private facebook group for friends and family at the moment. When asked, Scott told me that his ‘boss’ was a guy called Luke Cooper. When Luke called, we had a chat, and agreed to exchange tips for the month so we could see what each other were doing. Luke said that his website was currently being redesigned – and on asking his surname, he told me it was Harris (hmmm). As August 2021 progressed, he had a few winning dogs, but in general the strike rate was poor and he did not make a profit, and was focussed entirely on Hove. Often the tips would come (via text) with very little notice and claiming prices that were often impossible to match even if I was already logged in to several bookies accounts when the tip arrived. After 18 days of this ‘one month trial’ Luke went on the missing list as things were going so badly. When I messaged him to ask if he had given up or gone on holiday? he replied ‘a bit of both’. He then messaged a further tip for a Saturday evening greyhound with short notice – it also lost. He has not replied to my messages since and is probably rather embarrassed by the results. Everybody can go through losing runs, but this behaviour seemed pretty poor and unprofessional, the tips were poor and the real name of this man is still in question, and the website has been there all along. All in all, I found the experience not something that I could ever invest in, but I do hope they get things sorted out as they seemed like nice enough chaps. Fortunately my own horse racing betting remains profitable, although even I can have a poor run from time to time.

Dear Luke I have noticed that you have deducted my credit card for 120.00 pounds when I cancelled within the free trial period. please can you return this asap to my account and make sure no further payments are taken

Quick response and satisfactorily reconcilled issue no further problems thank you for prompt response

Why on earth is Colin Mccreadie communicating with Luke from South Downs Racing on this forum instead of contacting him direct?

I had a 17 minute conversation with Luke this morning. I use the term “conversation” loosley because I think I spoke for a total of 2 minutes and was bombarded with fast talking drivvel from Luke for 15 minutes! Reading the above comments and taking account of several reviews on here that have been proven by Admin to be falsified, it seems pretty clear that Luke and South Downs Racing are ***-men

*potential defamation removed by admin from comment*

I used the “Elite” service for one month (£120) out of curiosity; the results were poor at best and nowhere near “in profit” for the month. I actually ran a profit with my own Horse picks over the same period. I like to bet £100-£200 on each of the Horses i back but kept my stakes low, £10-£20 per bet for the South Downs “Elite” service, and it’s a good job i did as i would have been about £2,000 down for the month if i had backed the amounts i normally do. My OWN picks were far and away better than theirs. I would suggest that they have NO “insider” information and just take a bit of a punt and hope they win. I qualify my own bets and generally do ok, but with this “elite” service there is NO WAY you will be in profit over a 12-month period, in fact i would suggest, using my own experience with this “tipping service”, that you will be heavily down on your betting book.
MY ADVICE IS TO “AVOID AT ALL COSTS” and use YOUR OWN SKILL and JUDGEMENT and i guarantee you will make more money yourself than using South Downs very expensive “elite” tipping service. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I was contacted by South Downs Racing last week and offered to sign up for a seven day trial-which I subsequently did.
Five days on and one tip sent so far which finished 2nd at 6/1>100/30 beaten easily 23 lengths.
I know no service will ever have 100% winners -so I was prepared to have a go for 1 month.
After reading the few reviews here however-I am going to cancel my £120 subscription before it gets taken on Monday and count myself lucky.
As always-if it sounds too good to be true it generally is 99% of the time.
Always ready to fall for the next get rich quick service out there but now thanks to this site and albeit a few reviews-I have saved myself £120 and more from actually backing this jokers tips.
Just for information there is a tip advised today at Chelmsford running tonight-will be interesting to see how it gets on.
8.00.-Pending Appeal each way 11/2
It’s important to leave as much reviews as we can to help ordinary people like myself out and stop these sc*mmers from ripping people off.

“Try a week of free tips with no obligation” said the salesman who waffled on for nearly 20 minutes on a call.
I was given 3 red hot favorites on the free week that were left for dead in the final 2 furlongs, 2 of which didn’t make it into the frame.

As luck had it, one of the forums that I am a member of had several members give their own opinions of Elite Racing. Loser after loser after loser was one forum members post. Another member had a total of 15 tips with 2 winners, one of which was an odds on favorite. Fortunately I cancelled my direct debit before these scammers could take £120 out of my account.

As another poster on here has said, “if it seems to good to be true, it usually is”

AVOID AVOID AVOID

South Down Racing is one complete (potential defamation removed).. Recommends bets on horses and greyhounds and they say they are in the know but the results are a disgrace.
Avoid at all costs. They charge £120 per month knowing that most will cancel after say two months but you have paid them £240 plus lost your money on what you have bet on.
One of worst tipping services around.

thanks for the “heads up” everyone. got the call this morning offering a 7 day free trial but surprise , surprise they want your full card details immediately. I’m not naïve or stupid so will not be going ahead. Seems as though this company is just like all the others out there trying to make themselves an easy buck from mug punters.

i have just had a message from ryan about a 7day trial with one running todayi have tried tipsters before with no success
so wont be doing this service after reading what has been said thanks for this advice
Regards Alistair Melville

Has anyone have a more upto date review. I did use them 4 years ago and they were pants. Since then ive had 2 free greyhounds of which both won. Ive now taken a 7 day free trial to see what happens. If you use paypal to checkout its far easier to cancel

Todays bet is Whistleblower 17.10 Leicester

In my opinion given the state of the race it should place but this wouldnt give me confidence in them
