Tipster1986 Review – Tipstrr

Tipster1986 is a relatively long standing football betting tipster. The service is currently available via the Tipstrr platform and has seemingly enjoyed some good looking results.

Introduction to Tipster1986

Football betting is a bit of a minefield if you ask me. Whilst it is the second biggest betting market in the UK by a comfortable margin, it can be very hard to find the kind of value that allows for consistent and long term profits. This is only marred by bookies offering silly bets to so called “mug punters”. Why would they need to appeal to smart and informed bettors when there are a stream of Jack the Lads dying to put down £20 on an 8 team acca after a few pints on a Saturday afternoon?

With that backdrop in mind, I was quite surprised to receive an email recently promoting a service on the Tipstrr platform. For those who aren’t aware of what this is, it is a website that hosts hundreds, if not thousands of tipsters. They all ply their trade there and the site logs their performance etc. Now, you may be asking, why would that make an email about Tipster1986 jump out at you? Well, there is rarely incentive for the usual lot to promote the services. Furthermore, it came from quite a reputable source.

A quick glance over the service convinced me that Tipster1986 was worth a deeper look. This is a really quite interesting service that has a lot of potential to produce consistent and long term profits. And because this is hosted through Tipstrr, there is no place to hide. They provide some of the most in depth data analysis on tipsters on their platform that I have ever seen. This isn’t going to set your world alight mind. I feel very confident saying that from the start, but it is a solid looking option, so, let’s get into it.

What Does Tipster1986 Offer?

One of the first things that stood out to me when I started looking at Tipster1986 is that this is a pretty “no nonsense” kind of tipster service. Things are a little bit all over the place, and that is something that doesn’t have to be a negative. Whilst it can be indicative of a tipster who is simply shooting their shot, most professional bettors don’t follow set patterns.

What this means if you’re following Tipster1986 are a few different things. Firstly, whilst there is betting most days, this isn’t a daily affair. Far from it. It can also mean that you have to act quite quickly on some bets. Because the tipster behind the service can send them out at pretty much any time.

Don’t get me wrong, whilst the vast majority are sent out some 12-24 hours before kick off, you can get as little as an hours notice some times. This ultimately makes sense for a football tipster service as last minute team news can make all the difference. And I don’t mean it is a criticism of Tipster1986. But it is definitely something that might be a deal breaker for some people.

Something that is worth keeping in mind with Tipstrr as a platform is that tips are handled directly through them an a member’s area. Whilst you do receive emails notifying you when tips and posts are available, it is ultimately recommended that you log into your account and place bets through their platform.

Whilst this might sound like an inconvenience, it is actually hugely beneficial with something like Tipster1986. This is because there are various features that allow you to simply click bets and be taken through to bookie websites to place said bets. This is usually very close to the best prices available on the market, taking a significant chunk of work out of following the betting advice.

There are a few reasons why this is important with Tipster1986 in my mind. Firstly, there is that fact that you don’t always have a huge window to respond to a tip. Secondly, it eliminates the need to seek out best odds, which with a generally low odds service like this is very important. And finally, the bet types that this is built around aren’t something everybody will be familiar with.

Of course, there are two main bits of information to unpack from this. Firstly, let’s talk about the bet types. Whilst the tipster behind Tipster1986 covers a range of bets, the most common are Asian Handicap bets and accas made up of these. Whilst I think every bookie takes these bets, they can be intimidating.

The other thing to talk about is the low odds. You see, most of the bets that are advised through Tipster1986 are at less than evens. For some context on this, in Tipstrr’s statistical analysis of the service, they calculate the average odds at just 1.92. Whilst I acknowledge that value in football betting can be difficult, this is a very low figure still.

Fortunately, this is also a service that wins pretty regularly. The overall win rate for Tipster1986 sits at 56% (again, this is based off Tipstrr’s averages). The interesting thing is that this is actually pretty representative of what you can expect. Normally, this kind of thing is skewed by extreme results at one end or another, but this is a pretty consistent service.

Something that should be mentioned is the staking plan. Ultimately, I think that it’s probably fair to say that Tipster1986 is a service that is based around level stakes of 1 point per bet, with numbers calculated to £10 stakes. But Tipstrr’s website will make it look like you’re staking 10 points per bet. This is because the platform uses a rather convoluted approach that breaks all bets down in this way.

How Does Tipster1986 Work?

Whilst there is a lot about what Tipstrr do as a platform that is good, one of the things that categorically isn’t is that you don’t receive any real insight into how a tipster works. Sometimes individual tipsters may provide insight through posts (in which they address things like performance or round up a week), but this is something that the tipster behind Tipster1986 has chosen not to do.

This is of course somewhat problematic. Especially because Tipster1986 is a tipster service that covers a very broad array of football betting. Leagues bet on range from Greece, to Brazil to the MLS (as well as the usual suspects). And the performance across these leagues can also vary drastically. As such, it would be nice to have some understanding of what the approach is to some degree at least.

With that said, I do feel like there is some insight that can be gleaned from the bets that are placed. By and large, I think that Tipster1986 is based around what I would call “common sense bets”. There tends to be a lot of bets in which there is a strong favourite, and by leveraging smaller Asian Handicaps or doubles, the value is increased to the point where you are generally doubling your money on most bets.

Of course, this lack of actual insight is incredibly frustrating. But a lot can be said for how in depth and comprehensive Tipstrr are with their analysis. You can really break Tipster1986 down to very detailed levels, as well as see full proofing (even if it isn’t in the most accessible way). As such, whilst you don’t get that understanding of how this works, you can at least get a good idea of what you’re getting yourself into.

What is the Initial Investment?

There are 4 different options if you are looking at subscribing to Tipster1986, each of which differ drastically in terms of the outlay and the value that they offer. The lowest cost option is a weekly subscription, however, at £10 per week the numbers quickly add up.

This is really nailed home when you consider that the monthly subscription is just £19 per month. If you are looking for better value, you can sign up on a quarterly basis at a cost of £48, or alternatively, Tipstrr have a 6 monthly option for Tipster1986 which is priced at £85.

Unfortunately, there is no refund policy or money back guarantee in place for Tipster1986, however, Tipstrr do allow you your first week for just £2, after which the subscription moves over to the monthly option. This gives you a reasonable chance to see whether or not this is for you without a huge investment.

What is the Rate of Return?

The results for Tipster1986 are ultimately a very mixed bag, and that is definitely something that is worth keeping in mind here. Over the lifespan of the service, Tipstrr show some very disappointing results. But what is slightly more interesting to me is the more recent form. Here we see 6 straight months of profit to level stakes.

Unfortunately, there is little getting around the fact that the results and profit just aren’t all that amazing. Tipstrr show that since May 2021, Tipster1986 has produced a profit of some 20 points. Some months have seen less than a single point of “profit” as profit. A figure that doesn’t even cover the modest costs involved.

Conclusion for Tipster1986

Tipster1986 is quite a good lesson in being cautious of marketing. The email that landed on my desk for this talked about a service that is low risk and carries a consistent recent profit. It should have been a winner. And in some respects, one could argue that is the case. I mean, Tipstrr say that Tipster1986 has made £200 of profit over the last 3 months using their staking plan. This would mean some 20 points. But it still isn’t great.

The thing is, Tipster1986 is pretty low risk in many respects. Any service that wins more than 50% of its bets clearly has something going on. Those aren’t numbers that you can maintain for almost 2 years without some understanding of what you are doing. But the numbers also have to add up elsewhere, and that is where this struggles for me.

In horse racing, people say that if you want to turn a profit backing favourites, you need to be winning 70% of the time. This seems extreme, but the fact is that because your returns on each bet aren’t that high, a loser can cost you dearly. That is the issue with Tipster1986. Yes, you’re winning more than half the time, but Tipstrr demonstrate that the average odds are just 1.92. Less than evens.

What this really means is that the actual profit that you’re making is pretty miniscule. Now, if you’re in a position to stake hundreds of pounds per bet, then maybe things are a little different. The fact is that at average odds of 1.92, a strike rate of 52.08% is required to have some profit. That is the bare minimum. Tipster1986 is only winning slightly more often than that.

All of this is a shame because I was actually quite keen to see Tipster1986 do well. I would love to find a football tipster service that can deliver consistent profits. Especially if they can find additional value in it. But I don’t think that this is that product.

One of the biggest surprises in this industry is just how much difference there can be in opinion on what constitutes “good” or not. Personally, I think I have quite high standards. But having looked at some of the better quality products that are out there, I can appreciate what you can achieve with betting. And the truth is that a few points a month isn’t something I would happily pay out for month in month out.

Some people would be happy with that though. I know a good few betting review sites that will confidently proclaim a pass on a service that has barely scraped by its subscription costs or they have used £100 bets. I wouldn’t do that. The bottom line with Tipster1986 is that if you’re staking a tenner a point, you’d have made a few hundred quid over the last 6 months. That isn’t good enough.

With all of that in mind, despite some strong potential to the service (that I think that the tipster behind Tipster1986 needs to iron out perhaps and have a bit of a rethink of things), this simply isn’t something I could recommend. There are plenty of other arguably much better and more profitable services out there. They may cost you more, but sometimes, you get what you pay for.
